20 Oct
  • Straight punches
  • Hooks
  • Round kicks

Skipped krav 1 at 11. My excuse was that I was up until two AM and didn’t get up until 9. At least I ran three miles afterward.

Today’s class: KO Bag

14 Oct

The usual KO Bag stuff!

I was planning on doing a crazy three-hour workout on this day, but then I was way too tired. Once a month may be all that I can do for that kind of thing.

Today’s classes: Krav maga 1, Krav maga 2

13 Oct

Krav maga 1

  • Round kicks
  • Ground work – movement
  • Ground – round kicks

Krav maga 2

  • Various strikes
  • Various strikes with blocking
  • Elbows 1 through 7
  • All chokes
  • All chokes with eyes closed
  • All chokes with one arm
  • 360 defense
  • 360 defense with push to shoulder

I almost went to KO Bag instead of Krav 2 today, but then I saw so many people waiting to go into Krav 2, including a few I knew, I felt lame for not going.

Today’s classes: Krav 2, Krav 1, KO Bag

7 Oct

Yes, I was crazy enough to take three classes today.

Krav maga 2

  • Straight punches
  • Hooks
  • Upper cuts
  • Front groin kicks
  • Advancing front groin kicks*
  • Falling back*
  • Choke from the front with a push (arm up, violent turn, elbow 7/catch other hand against chest, elbow 2, hammer, knees)
  • Choke from the front against the wall*

The ones with the stars were the brand-new things I learned. The trick with the advancing front groin kick – which is kicking someone in the groin with your lead leg when you’re a little too far away – is stepping and kicking at the same time. I *think* I got it.

I didn’t get falling back at all. I kept landing on my tail bone instead of my back and palms/forearms. But most people weren’t getting it either.

Choke from the front against the wall is different than not against the wall because you have to raise your shoulder of the arm that’s up very high, and drop the other shoulder very low. Then, keeping your raised arm and hand and head against the wall, you sort of turn into the lowered shoulder. Then after that the combatives are the same.

It was fun to learn something new today, and to be in the same boat, for once, as almost everyone else.

Krav maga 1

  • Straight punches
  • Elbows 1 through 7
  • Hammer punch to behind
  • Choke from behind (two-handed pluck, groin strike, elbow 2, hammer behind, knees, combatives)

It was very helpful to run through all the elbows, even quickly. I had mentioned to the instructor that teaching the unusual elbows – 4, 5, and 6 – was lacking in the krav 1 classes.

KO Bag

  • Straight punches
  • Hooks
  • Upper cuts
  • Elbows
  • Round kicks
  • Front kicks
  • Sprawls
  • Bob and weave
  • Slips
  • Footwork
  • Front kick from ground
  • Getting up

Needless to say, I was plenty pooped by the end of KO Bag – hell, by halfway through KO Bag. Three classes in one day is probably not something I’ll be doing every week.
